The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

Over the past couple weeks there have been several instances of thefts occurring at various dining establishments in Decatur. In each of these thefts a victim will be seated while dining and have their purse hanging off the back of their chair.

During these thefts a suspect will get close enough to reach inside the victim’s purse and remove a wallet or credit cards. The suspects will then utilize these stolen credit cards and make large purchases at various businesses.

The Decatur Police Department doesn’t want you to be a victim and wants to remind citizens to pay close attention to your surroundings and don’t leave your purse unattended for any amount of time.

If you have any information regarding these thefts, please call Crime Stoppers at 217-423-TIPS. You do not have to give your name. Crime Stoppers will pay $500 or more for information that leads to an arrest on the crime of the week. Thank you.
