The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On November 4th at 5:00 am officers responded to Zips Flowers by the Gates, located at 518 E Prairie in reference to a building check. Upon arrival officers observed the front glass door to the business was shattered.

Some time overnight suspects entered and ransacked the business. The suspects removed currency and computer equipment from the business.

At this time no suspect information has been provided. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 10-26-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On October 23rd at 6:30 am officers responded to the Peoples Church of God, located at 833 W Pershing in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival officers observed broken glass and damage to a side door.

Some time overnight suspects entered the church and damaged two more doors to gain entrance to offices. The suspects removed US Currency from a safe and desk drawers.

At this time no suspect information has been provided. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 10-12-2011

On October 12th at 4:00 am officers responded to Jimmy Johns, located at 100 E Prairie in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival officers observed the glass on the front door was shattered and the front door to the business was open.

Suspects entered the business through the front door and removed US currency from the cash drawer and a safe.

NEWS RELEASE 9-14-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On September 9th officers were detailed to the Dollar General Store, located at 3797 East Rt. 36 in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke with store employees who advised at approx. 8:30pm an unknown male subject entered the business. He walked to the checkout counter area, picked up a candy bar and then handed the cashier money to pay for the candy bar. When the store employee opened the register to get the suspect his change, he quickly lunged over the counter and tried to remove the cash drawer. The store employee tried to stop the suspect but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled the business in an unknown direction with the cash drawer. We need your help in solving this crime.

The suspect was described as a b/m in his late 20’s to early 30’s. He was approx. 5ft 3inches tall and weighed 115 pounds. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, dark colored pants and a red & blue baseball hat.

NEWS RELEASE 8-11-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On August 4th at approx. 11:20pm Caleb Witty and his sister were walking home when they reached the 2200 hundred block of E. Johns St. They were approached from behind by 2 unknown b/m’s. One of the b/m suspects displayed a handgun and demanded money from Caleb and his sister. Caleb stated that they did not have any money so the b/m struck Caleb in the head. Caleb’s sister ran for help and heard several gunshots as she fled the area. Caleb was fatally wounded and found in the 2200 block of E. Johns Street. We need your help in solving this crime.

The 1st suspect was described as b/m, approx. 6ft tall and weighed 150lbs. He was wearing a black shirt, jeans and possibly had a gap in his front teeth. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 6ft tall weighing 200 lbs. He was wearing jeans and a black shirt.

NEWS RELEASE 8-3-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On July 31st officers were detailed to Jimmy Johns, located at 2950 N. Water Street in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke with store employees that advised at approx. 10:00pm 2 b/m’s entered the business wearing facial coverings. Both b/m’s advised the store employees that they had guns and would shoot them if they didn’t cooperate. The store employees were forced to open the cash registers and business safe. The suspects removed the money and then fled the business, running eastbound towards Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. We need your help in solving this crime.

The 1st suspect was described as a b/m, approx. 6ft tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a black mask. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 6ft tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a white shirt, black shorts and had a blue shirt covering his face.

NEWS RELEASE 7-27-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On July 21st officers were detailed to a residence in the 300 block of west Harrison Avenue in reference to a home invasion. The victim stated that at approx. 10:30pm he was leaving his residence when 2 unknown subjects wearing facial coverings approached him. Both subjects displayed handguns and forced the victim back into his residence. One of the suspects then struck the victim in the head with a handgun and demanded all of his money. After taking all of the victims currency, both suspects fled the scene running eastbound on Harrison Ave. We need your help in solving this crime.

The 1st suspect was described as b/m, approx. 6ft tall and weighing 180lbs. He was wearing a red & yellow shirt and blue jeans. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 6ft tall with a medium build. He was wearing all dark clothing.

NEWS RELEASE 7-6-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On July 2nd officers responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Decatur Westside Church of the Nazarene, located at 1224 W. Grand. The victims advised that they were outside doing lawn maintenance when an unknown subject approached them. The victims advised this subject displayed a small, black handgun and pointed it at one of them. The suspect then demanded all of the victim’s money. The suspect made off with multiple tools, cell phones and U.S. currency before fleeing the scene running westbound.

The suspect was described as a medium-skinned b/m in his 20’s. He was approx. 6ft tall, weighed 250lbs and was wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored shorts. We need your help in solving this crime.

NEWS RELEASE 6-23-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On June 7th officers were detailed to an address in the 1600 block of north Monroe Street in reference to a Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Upon arrival officers discovered that a black 1999 Chevy Cavalier had been stolen. The owner advised police that the vehicle did not run and would’ve had to been towed away. On June 8th officers were detailed to the 100 block of north Witt Street in reference to a gold 1998 Dodge Stratus being stolen. The owner advised police the Stratus did not run and could not have been driven away. Lastly, on June 16th officers were detailed to the 1800 block of Richmond Ct in reference to a red 1995 Ford Mustang being stolen. The owner advised police that the Mustang was not in running condition.

At this time it is unknown whom the suspect or suspects are that were involved in stealing these vehicles. We need your help in solving this crime.

NEWS RELEASE 6-15-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On June 9th officers were detailed to the Tobacco Shack, located at 1237 E. Eldorado Street, in reference to an armed robbery. At approx. 8pm the victim was leaving the Tobacco Shack when he was approached by 2 b/m’s in the parking lot. One of them displayed a silver handgun and demanded the victim’s money. The 2nd b/m removed several items from the victim’s pocket including cigarettes, a cell phone and U.S. Currency. After taking the items, both suspects ran southbound from the parking lot. We need your help in solving this crime.

Witnesses described the 1st suspect as a b/m approx. 6’2” with a thin build. He was wearing a white tank top, black pants and wore his hair in braids. This suspect was also armed with the silver handgun. The 2nd suspect was described as a b/m approx. 5’10” with a medium build. He wore a black t-shirt and dark colored pants. Both suspects appeared to be in their 20’s.
