The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On February 5, 2012, officers responded to Parkway Church of the Nazarine, 2701 E. Fairies Parkway, in reference to an unchecked burglary. Upon arrival, Officers discovered window screens pried away from the windows on the south side where it is believed entry was made to the Church.

Once inside officers discovered several locked doors inside the Church were forced open. Suspects removed US currency and damaged numerous items within the building. There are no suspects at this time. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 1/24/12

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving a cold case murder that occurred in 2009.

On 6/22/09, officers responded to 1157 Cottage Hill in reference to a home invasion where the victim, Salisha Deberry, had been murdered.

A witness to this incident advised there were 4 to 5 young b/m suspects, all wearing dark colored clothing, all armed with firearms standing over Salisha as she lay on a couch in the living room. The witness advised the suspects were demanding money from her. The witness advised she recalled one of the b/m’s was wearing a mask that had skulls all over it. This incident ultimately ended with the loss of Salisha Deberry’s life.

News Release 1/11/12

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week which is in reference to connecting cases.

On December 24th and again on December 31st officers responded to Wal-Mart, located at 4224 Prospect in reference to burglaries. Upon arrival officers spoke to loss prevention officers.

On both occasions video surveillance captures two suspects inside the business concealing multiple laptops and other electronic items in a shopping cart and also in a purse. The suspects leave the business without paying for the items.

Suspect one is described as a white female 20 to 25 years old, 5’04 120 pounds, dark brown hear, and wearing wire rim eye glasses. Suspect number 2 is described as a while male 20 to 30 years old 5’10 180 pounds and short dark brown hair. The suspect vehicle is described as a white later model import, possibly a Nissan Maxima.

News Release 1/5/12

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On January 1st at 1:14PM, officers responded to an attempted robbery of a person on the north side of Decatur. Upon arrival, Officers spoke to the victim who advised a w/m approached her while standing on the front porch of her son’s residence. The victim advised the w/m demanded she hand over her purse. The victim advised she told the w/m she did not have her purse at which time the w/m knocked a bag of groceries out of her hand and ran away from the scene.

A witness advised the suspect entered an early 90’s tan in color Buick Regal with partial license plate N92. The witness advised the suspect’s vehicle had a dent near the gas fill door. The suspect is described as a w/m, 508/150 early to mid 20’s. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

On December 23rd at 05:36am officers responded to Wild Dog Saloon located at 815 S. 22nd St. in reference to a Burglar alarm. Upon arrival, Officers located forced entry gained to the business, through the back door.

Once inside suspects removed US Currency and a flat screen television which was recovered. At this time there are no suspects. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 12/5/11

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On November 25th at 12:58 pm officers responded to the 700 block of N. Van Dyke St. in reference to a vehicle crash involving a person on a bicycle. When officers arrived on scene they learned an 11 year old boy had been struck by a vehicle and injured, while riding his bicycle. The vehicle that struck this boy left the scene and did not return.

The vehicle is described as a green or black colored possibly Toyota Camry with license plates starting with an “L” and ending with a “4”. The vehicle may also have front end damage. The driver of this vehicle was described as a mixed male, late teens. There was also a w/f in the front passenger seat and a w/m in the back seat. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 11/29/11

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On November 25th at 11:30 pm officers responded to a location in Decatur in reference to a previous attempted robbery of a person that occurred in the parking lot in front of the employment office at 757 W. Pershing Rd.

The victim was working at the time, cleaning up trash in the parking lot of this complex when he was approached by a w/m asking him for money. When the victim told him he did not have money a second w/m appeared from the west side of the building running at the victim. The victim advised when he turned to look at the subject running at him the first subject grabbed hold of his arm. The victim advised he pushed the first w/m away from him, striking him with his fist. The victim advised he then used his garbage picker and struck the second subject, which ended the situation with both suspects running towards Pershing Rd.

Both suspects were described as w/m’s, 18-20, #1 was approx. 603 wearing black pants and black boots. #2 was approx. 510 wearing all black. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

News Release 11/22/11

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this weeks crime of the week.

On 11/16/11 at 8:00 AM, officers responded to Image Health and Fitness, located at 2003 N. 22nd St. in reference to a previous burglary. Upon arrival, officers observed the glass to the west side door was shattered and entry was gained through this door.

The suspect entered the business through the west door and removed numerous muscle milk drinks, 5 hour energy shots and 8 rubber coated dumbells.

Security video shows the suspect entering the business at approximately 01:27 AM. The suspect is described as an unknown race male, aprroximately 510 inches tall, 190-205 pounds wearing an all gray hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants. The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

On November 14th at 12:30 am officers responded to Jimmy Johns, located at 100 E. Prairie in reference to a burglar alarm. Upon arrival officers observed the glass to the west side door was shattered and entry was gained through this door. Suspects entered the business through the west door and removed the cash register and US currency.
